Great Victorian Rail Trail

The Great Victorian Rail Trail is one of the longest Rail Trails in Victoria and is world renowned for it’s diversity and amazing scenery that attracts visitors from all over Australia and the world.

The Great Victorian Rail Trail, formerly known as the Goulburn River High Country Rail Trail is the longest and most scenic rail trail in Victoria with 134kms of trail to be explored.

You will find maps, accommodation (Cottage or Cabin) at Wood Duck Cottages www.woodduckcottages.com.au and there are so many places to eat and the Y Centre can help you to plan your trip.

At Wood Duck Cottages we have a great double shower or a clawfoot bath to ease those aches and pains after a long day.  Bikes can be locked up, washed (or fixed in a dedicated workshop) and the most comfortable beds, quiet surrounds for a good nights sleep and a hot fire to sip a nice glass or wine!

'Fantastic place to stay. Great location. Relaxing and cozy setup with everything you need. Books to read. DVD's, there are chooks (which you don't hear) and nice views of rolling hills. We will be back. Also for the record do a big shop and plan a big night in to cook as the stove and oven is seriously good.'

Hi Catherine, We had a such a lovely stay! We loved the bathroom and spacious living areas. Hope you don't mind we left our veggie scraps in case you had a compost bin.  We slept well and enjoyed using your kitchen to cook. Thanks for a lovely stay. We might have to return one day with my step daughter. She'd love the play area and seeing all the animals.

Take care, Maddie and Mark

Lovely surrounds, peace and quiet, clean and tidy house. Spacious living areas, kid friendly, Beautiful decor. Jenny C

Homely, comfortable place to stay in a beautiful setting. We're coming back!

Great space with nice touches and country comfort. Beautiful area, we enjoyed our stay.

Great value farm retreat. Love the kitchen and bathroom. Perfect for a family.

Craig and Catherine were great to deal with - very quick to reply to messages and they effortlessly accommodated our last-minute booking and request for an extra bed. The cottage is delightful and has a lovely, warm atmosphere. It was a little oasis for us on the way home to Sydney having driven from East Gippsland as the bushfires were starting to take hold down there. Loved the bathroom, especially the clawfoot bath.

Lovely spot to stay with horses. Great safe paddocks

The cottage is a stylish and large space. Very comfortable and well equipped. We had a wonderful stay with Catherine, as did our dog. Everything was available to be very comfortable. The kitchen is amazing, the beds really cosy and the table could host a large family...loads of space! Unfortunately, I injured myself in a horse accident on the trail and when staying in Yea and found it wonderful to be in such a beautiful, welcoming space. Craig and Catherine were very friendly, open, and accommodating. It was lovely!

Thanks Catherine and Craig for hosting us. sorry we were challenging guests with horse needs and an injury. The cottage was great, and it was fabulous to be in a comfortable well equipped place with the injury. Thank you!

A wonderful cottage with a kitchen most would envy with its Falcon cooker, butlers sink and Smeg fridge. The bathroom with it’s double shower and freestanding bath didn’t disappoint and the very soft bed with good linen topped it off. An outdoor open fire on a very starry night was the perfect setting for our weekend escape.

Really enjoyed our stay at Wood Duck Cottage and would go back tomorrow if we could.

Large cottage and great location only a short distance from Yea. Great farm stay our daughter loved all the animals and the play equipment. A great selection of books and DVDs.

'11/10 would stay again. It was a warm day when we arrived so Craig thoughtfully left the a/c on for us - a good start to an amazing stay! Catherine and Craig have created a beautiful space that is the Wood Duck Cabin. The inside is super spacious for two, and there's a perfect balance of charming country farmhouse with modern luxuries such as reliable hot water and quality sheets and towels. The back door (accessed from the bathroom/ toilet) leads out to a large and fully fenced veggie garden which was great for the fur kids. As shown in the photos, the bathroom/ toilet is separated from the sleeping/ living area. Out the front, there's a deck with an outdoor table, a portable bbq and a drum filled with wood for a fire. The perfect spot to read under the sun or to simply enjoy nature.

There's a Cottage on the property too and both Cabin and Cotrage have use of your own practically-private unsealed road. We walked the dogs up to the very end of the road and didn't encounter a single person or vehicle - lots of sheep, cows and rolling hills though! This was our base to ride the Great Victorian Rail Trail and it was an easy drive or cycle into Yea - a hugely popular thoroughfare which was great for meals - but made us even more grateful to have the tranquility of the Cabin.'

Tips on how to get to Wood Duck Cottage

Our address is 180 Killingworth Rd Yea 3717 so it’s best to go through the main street of Yea past Foodworks supermarket and the Police station on your left-hand side going towards Mansfield. You will pass over the Yea River and past the

Yea River Wetlands John Cummins Reserve.

Killingworth Road is next on your left, just after the 60 km signs. Our property is about 1.7 km along Killingworth Road, so as you come down the hill you will pass Williamsons Road on your right (a dirt road).

You will need to slow down and take the next driveway on your right-hand side (black gates) and the Wood Duck sign on the front fence. Follow the main driveway going past the main house to where the cottage is located at the rear of the property.
